http://nomadcoder.blogspot.com/2007/02/screenshots-ubuntu-610-edgy-eft.html

Some screen shots of my Dell Inspiron E1405 powered by Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy-Eft. Have a look in to those.. Don't you think Linux has come a long way in desktop and laptops .. ? Those who haven't tried it ... best way to experience it is using a Ubuntu live CD(no need to install to disk), which can ordered on line free of cost from https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

Sun Tech Days 2006-2007, Hyderabad

Today it was all "Sun Tech Days" .. attended Day 1 (21-02-2007) , and my I was anxiously waiting for one particular session .. session on JRuby (Java Implementation of Ruby) by Charles Nutter, JRuby core developer. Truly speaking it was for first time I am hearing about JRuby, even though I knew about Ruby for a long time even though I never tried it ! ... was pretty interesting session and it provided insight to Ruby/JRuby and how versatile it is as OO scripting language ? I am surprised to hear that there is a high probability that JVM can be a called just a "VM" - reason : because it will serve as single execution engine for all the Java s, JRuby s, Perl s ... guys did I hear it right ???

In his session Charles pointed out why Ruby can be special - it brings alllll the "fun" factor back to your coding/programming .. ! yeah thats really some good stuff right ? I am exploring it to find it out myself ...

Meta-Search or Clustering

I came across this interesting way of search algorithm, when I was doing my internship in (Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management Kerala) IIITMK's R&D wing in Thiruvananthapuram .. I was really amazed by this, even we (my fellow interns) used have sleepless nights in lab of IIITMK discussing about this ..hey we even charted out a business plan :) .. but I lost track of it when I got placed in software biggie in blore .. really lost track of research interests .. but now I finding time and mind to do it again ....

To find out what meta_search or custering is : do a simple search for keyword "chips" in Vivisimo http://vivisimo.com/search?tb=vivisimocom&query=chips and Carrot2
http://demo.carrot2.org/demo-stable/search?in=Yahoo%21&q=chips&s=100&alg=Lingo&opts=h and compare the results with those given by Google http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=chips&meta=

Interesting right .. meta-search algorithms tries to identify clusters(similar contents) inside a one big clusters .. (cluster inside clusters) and groups or labels them in GUI. Lots of proven algo. are there like fuzzy means, using a data structure approach like Suffix trees and lots...

Field of application of clustering is spread across the all domain .. business intelligence, intuitive textual and multimedia search, document management ......
