Ubuntu in my laptop !!

I was always thinking of ripping the "recommends Windows XP" sticker out of my laptop, and virtually did it by installing Ubuntu my Dell Inspirion E1405 .... it has all those ingredients which makes "linux un-friendly" .. but i heard its better than !!
I was really pursuing investigations for good laptops which supports linux .. and found Lenavo(formerly IBM) and HP the better ones .. but i went for Dell since it came my way ..

Now I am now having problem in my X, so as of now no UI :-(
(WW)I810 : No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:2) found ...
Fatal server error
no screens found

... but today i think it will fine .. Thanks to all geeky linux/ubuntu forums out there ......! Will come tomorrow with the result ... will post it..

yeah !! guys .. at last GUI is up ! With Ubuntu all you have to do tweak the conf files ..
gone for vesa(generic driver) instead of i810 intel driver .. i got the 1024x768 resolution but I feel it looks somewhat "stretchy" .. need to check it out ..

1) open /ext/X11/xorg.conf
2) edit i810 and add vesa

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Corporation Intel Default Card"
Driver "i810" // go for "vesa" here
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"

3) startx (start the X)

What a way to explain something serious ! ... (need to understand thread model to njoy this)

I came across a post in java forum on thread synchronization, it reads like this

Synchronized block is a toilet room with a lock in a public lavatory.
Only one person(running thread) can have the lock at a time.
And, she/he have to receive the lock from a particular object obj like:
synchronized(obj){.....} // one object has only one lock for this {} toilet and for any other toilets how many there are... *

and fun is in the way he explains a deadlock situation it goes like this .. read on

The guy inside has the key to toilet. The guy outside has the toilet paper.

geeks too have great sense of humour :-) !!!

Destination : Wayanad

This time it was Wayand ... ! We ( John, Pramod, Jeby, Arun and Me) set to unravel the mystic and misty Wayanad ... The only that was nagging us was time .. we just 1 day (9/12/2006 - 10/12/2006) to explore. But we decided to got for it and cover may 3 to 5 places and John and Pramod shortlisted Pookode lake, Edakkal cave, Soochipara falls(Senital falls), Chembara Peak.

Wayanad is nestled in the Western Ghats and is located in the northerneast tip of Kerala, bordering both TamilNadu(Nilgiris Dist) and Karnataka(Chamarajnagar Dist).

Route : Bangalore -> Mysore -> Gundulpet -> Sulthan Bathery -> Kalpetta
We managed to sneak into PWD rest house in Kalpetta and it turned out to be a good choice (value for money).

Pookode Lake : A peaceful, serene place .. nothing much adventurous here to do but ideal for laaazyy and cozzy boat ride. The guide said that Pookode is natural lake and its shape resembles that of India .. hmmm ..did I notice that ??? .. but I saw monkey having ga
la time . mann ! they did dive to lake from tree top !! believe me .......

Pookode lake : Boats are here to go ...!!

Edakkal cave: It said that evidence like carvings on the walls of the cave indicate human inhabitation date back to 5000 years .... wow!! thats some serious years :-) . Timings to visit Edakkal is between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. More on Edakkal :

Chembra Peak : Chembra is the highest peak in Wayanad, near to Meppady town. You need permission from Forest Officer to trek. Camping and guide facilities is there , but we never had time for a full trek and camp atop :-( .. I am sure you will all greeeeeenn carpet laid by tea plantations !! what a way to start hike uphill ..At the top of the Chembra Peak, there is a lake in the shape of a heart called hredaya sarass .. but looked barren with no literally no water .....
Chembra Peak: view through tea plantations

Trek was not so simple .. but views around were awesome . Me and Pramod had some disagreements on one issue .. but now when i think about I am sure that "I was wrong" so .. Sorry dude ! :-)
Chembra trek: Animated debate :-)

Guys !! if are planning Wayand .. go for Chembra .. its refreshing i can still feel the cool misty air .. have fun ..

Soochipara falls :22 km south of Kalpetta ... walk of around 2 km from base will take to falls . .. the moment we sighted falls all we manged to do was wade through slippery rocks to cool refreshing waterfall ... that was so cool !

Soochipara falls

It was memorable trip by all means although we could have "seen more places"," trekked more", "hiked more" because Wayanad offers lots of surprises ...
& and first time in my life i saw car huffing and puffing like a steam engine ..... see to believe :-)
